January 1971:
  • McDonald’s unveiled the first phase of its McDonaldland concept. Early commercials were built on an upbeat, bubblegum-style tune and featured a narrator; many had plots that involved various villains trying to steal a corresponding food item, stopped by Ronald McDonald.
 
January 1984:
  • Wendy’s rolled the first “Where’s the Beef” North American commercial campaign, featuring actress Clara Peller.
 
January 2005:
  • Arby’s started to test a new line of products featuring all-natural chicken.
 
  • Landry’s Inc. entered the gaming industry, purchasing a casino property.
 
January 2007:
  • Starbucks removed trans fat from its menu items in half of the company’s U.S. locations.
 
January 2009:
  • Burger King rolled out the Angry Whopper burger and microsite angry-gram.com, which allows guests to deliver “Angry-Gram” emails featuring the new burger. The humorous emails contain an Angry Whopper that reproaches the recipient with a message recorded by the sender.
 
  • Dunkin’ Donuts launched a “You ‘Kin Do It” campaign on TV, radio, print, outdoor and POS, playing on the hard economic times.
